Welcome. My name is Jeong-Baek, Lee, mayor of Sangju.
We, 110,000 citizens of Sangju, thank you from the bottom of our hearts for visiting the official website of the City of Sangju.
Since a long time ago, Sangju has been well-known for its beautiful mountains and rivers, fertile land, and warm-hearted people. Located at the root of Gyeongsangnam-do, the city used to be one of the nine Ju (州: province) during the Silla period, one of the eight Mok (牧: administrative division) during the Goryeo period, and the country where a 2nd junior-rank governor (Gwanchalsa) also served as a 3rd-senior rank governor (Moksa) during the Joseon period.
Famous for producing rice, cocoon, and dried persimmon, the city has been commonly known as the place of “Three White” and has recently become popular as the city of bicycles.
As the city of beautiful culture and clean nature, Sangju has preserved tourism resources and cultural heritage that embody the ancestral spirits, such as Munjangdae in Sokri Mountain where King Sejo allegedly recited poems with King Munmu (who was a king of the Silla dynasty), and Gyeongcheondae, the most stunning work of art standing in the middle of the 1,300-li-long (900 meters) Nakdong River.
With the expansion of National Highways No. 3 and No. 25, as well as the Jungbu Expressway, and with a more complex transport network, the city has become the center of traffic in Korea. In addition, it will become the center of national economic growth in this new millennium by building a high-tech industrial complex, such as the Korean Medicine Resources Industrial Complex, and by supporting the high-tech agricultural industry.
Dear valued visitors!
Thank you very much for visiting the website of Sangju, and make great memories in our beautiful city, Sangju.
Mayor of Sangju Jeong-Baek, Lee
